What an amazing experience! Stayed at Fundu Lagoon for 7 nights after a safari for our wedding anniversary and were completely blown away. Accommodation was fantastic with attention paid to every detail. The resort is completely in tune with the surrounding environment and wildlife. The food was varied and delicious. The diving was great with most of the dives with only the two of us on the boat and dives sites to ourselves. The whole thing exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend this resort.

Being based in Zanzibar, we made a mini break discovery of 2 days in this establishment located about 1 hour drive from Pemba airport, then about ten minutes speed boat from the port of Mkoani.
Welcome on the hotel’s grand pier by the staff, direction reception: everything is superbly maintained. ” Room ” (if you can call it that) deluxe with sea view ( n° 16), private pool, seating areas: everything exudes luxury reminiscent of British colonial style.
Excellent table with varied menus offering 3 choices of starters, main dishes and desserts.
Panoramic pool, lounge bar on the pier to enjoy the sunset…don’t forget the mosquito repellent lotion!
Price in a high range, but the game is worth it.
Before leaving the premises, I recommend a short visit to the shop where you can (if you wish) acquire a splendid work tracing the origins of this establishment and its construction, a work documented by the owners themselves.

Wow what an incredible place, a phenomenal holiday that far exceeded all our expectations.

Fundu Lagoon really does tick all the boxes, I could rave about this place for hours but then you wouldn’t have the experience of discovering all of its magic for yourself.

We found everything excellent, rooms, food, drinks & service, the people who work here are all truly wonderful, so friendly, helpful & happy. A special shout out to “the ninja” who not only makes the best cocktails but was very generous with his personal time to take us to the village & fish market – thank you again.

We will absolutely return & cannot recommend this little corner of paradise enough.

Only tip would be take beach shoes but other than that embrace the barefoot life & the complete switch off to the rest of the world.

After a wonderful 10-day safari with Asilia, we chose to unwind for four days on Pemba Island at Fundu Lagoon—a jungle lodge set in a truly remote beachfront location. It felt like the perfect continuation of our journey, remaining faithful to the principles of sustainable tourism while offering the same level of comfort and quality we had enjoyed in the safari camps.

We were not disappointed. The setting is breathtaking, the staff sincerely warm and caring, and the design of the communal spaces elegant and harmonious with the surrounding nature. Everywhere you look there is attention to small details. I devoured the book recounting the story of Fundu Lagoon, which is fascinating and inspiring—it perfectly captures what tourism should aspire to be today (and the politicians of Zanzibar should be gifted a copy). Ms Ellis is my hero and I would have loved to meet her. She is responsible for Fundu Lagoon’s sustainability philosophy with its thoughtful, low-impact approach to hospitality. Great care is taken to blend seamlessly into the natural environment, employ local staff, and genuinely reinvest in the surrounding community. Experiences such as the village visit and the spice-farm tour are authentic and respectful, offering insight into everyday life on Pemba Island, which we tourists should learn about.

For us, it was important to know that part of what we spent directly benefits the local community, and this truly seems to be the case. Fundu Lagoon is a shining example of responsible tourism done right.

Also the scuba diving and snorkeling are fabulous! My son did his open water and advanced certificate in the time we were there. It was just he and the instructor, no crowds.

From 19/1/26 to 25/1/26, my wife and I stayed in this paradise eco-lodge! Everything is perfect: the rooms in the forest by the beach. Comfortable tents with very well equipped bathroom. A mosquito net covers the bed from which you can see the Indian Ocean. A dream awake. The staff is very attentive. All three meals are served in an original setting overlooking the beach. The welcome of The manager “Marcella” is incredible. Only one problem please us. At sunset, you can have an aperitif on the terrace by the ocean. It is a dream in the tropics. The excursions are perfect.
Rejuvenate in this magical place with an incredible pool. Everything is done to make your stay unforgettable. From the pick-up to reach the hotel by river shuttle until the return , nothing to complain about … only compliments to all the staff. Little extras like dinners on the beach by the water.
There are still hotels that want to please you from morning to night Go ahead with your eyes closed! You will come back with extraordinary memories.

Absolutely outstanding lodge, eco-friendly, I don’t think I’ve ever spent days barefoot in the entire facility without ever worrying about where I step. The entire facility is just paradise on earth, the staff is amazingly nice, and the manager was very accomodating with the facilities and our booking.

This is a first class hotel/resort where reviews cannot alone be a high enough praise.
All the staff are amongst some of the very best we have encountered across our many trips around the world.
The facilities are 100% superb and the history of the resort is written in a book by the owners which is a must to read.
We were lucky enough to meet Ellis Flyte who was the inspiration behind this resort and all that it holds. What a privilege to meet her.
Food and service was out of this world. An unexpected incident happened towards the end of our stay and the General Manager ensured we were looked after and stayed with us from beginning until the return to the resort some hours later. I cannot praise him highly enough.
Excellent accommodation and cleaned almost hourly.
Spa treatments amongst the best in a superb setting.

A little luxury paradise! Fell in love from the moment we arrived – personal service (Hannes the manager is lovely!), great food, fantastic diving…and all on the most incredible eco friendly private oasis. Couldn’t recommend more!!

Fantastic breathtaking diving, brilliant food and excellent spa. A wonderful barefoot luxury experience with wonderful beaches. One of the highlights was the beach barbecue and the private dinner at our rooms. The staff is very professional and personal.

A beautifully secluded and relaxed resort – we loved the safari style tented accommodation which was in keeping with the rest of our safari. Very friendly and relaxed – partly to do with the fact there are only a small number or rooms, partly the general vibe and partly the style of the resort and the great team hosting there. Great diving school onsite with great dive masters and quality and quantity of sealife to see was also fantastic. A place you definitely want to return to!

Sensational experience from arrival to departure. Hannes and his team deliver exceptional service and the location, understated chic of the resort and food is even better than we imagined.

Diving was superb and you have the sea to yourself without the madding crowds. Whilst waiting between dives we watch a Humpback whale and baby travel down the channel.

Only regrets are that we only booked 3 days and we missed the night snorkelling.
